So ich habs wieder gefunden:
The subject of the post was:
Talked to a Denso (NAV) engineer today
Was a question and answer type deal:
Q. Why doesn't the current unit have MP3 capability?
A Originally it did and it used a software decoder, but the performance of the file system was painfully slow. So it was decided to remove the capability because GM feared it may cause warranty claims (in a nutshell).
So since it is implied by the Denso Engineer the issue with the MP3 was the software driven decoder which caused a slow file access system.
I think the fear on GM's part probably was we would all be complaining about how slow it was to access the MP3 files and would be bringing the car in for service all the time and therefore it was decided to "shut off" the mp3 feature via software.
I don't know where they get such an idea cause us Corvette owners aren't picky people who complain very much.
So based on this post with the engineer many of us assume the fact the Nav does not play MP3 is not because it is incapable of doing so, but has been disabled in the unit's software. So we beleive it could be turned back on again via a software upgrade.
I would say from what I recall reading nobody has stated that this will be included in an upgrade, why are more hoping it will.
But in the preliminary order information for the 2006 posted on the forum it stated once again that the navigation system would have MP3 capability which leads us to hope they are enabling it in software and if so then perhaps they 05 will be enabled via a software upgrade that solves the slow file access issue. But perhaps the unit itself is changing in 06. I really don't know
